“ ‘Environment’ means more than indoor vs. outdoor; it’s cultural. It’s being able to embrace the limitations of the ship. For instance, if a Guest isn’t happy with a room and we are sold out, we can’t walk them to another hotel. We have to get creative.”
For us, work environment encompasses more than just the physical space. It is our entire work philosophy— pushing ourselves, and each other, to do our best, every day, in every situation, cruise after cruise. We continuously strive to deliver more than what the Guests expect. It’s living the promise of the Disney brand.
This way of thinking serves our Crew well as they take on high pressure, demanding roles to exceed Guests’ expectations every day of their contracts. It also serves our unique shipboard culture—working and living in a confined space with certain limitations, such as minimal personal space and little time off. Yet, it is because of these limitations that we respect and value creative solutions and input from our Crew Members so much. It is also important to remember that Crew Members are a reflection of DCL whether on one of our ships, in port, or on our private island Castaway Cay.
Working at Disney Cruise Line also means taking Mother Nature into consideration. With rough seas, hurricane season, and hot, tropical days, the elements can add an extra level of stress to performing your job with the highest level of professionalism. However, meeting these challenges is what it means to be a part of something truly exceptional.
